It's National Forest Week and today is National Tr It's National Forest Week and today is National Tree Day! 🌲

Did you know that 10% of the world's forests are located in Canada—a large portion of which are included in the boreal forest region?

The boreal forest spans eight countries and is often referred to as the lungs of the north. Knowing this, we all have an incredible opportunity—and responsibility—to protect the boreal forest and its network of wetlands.

To learn more, check out the @ducboreal program.

The boreal forest is one of the most important eco The boreal forest is one of the most important ecosystems in the world. In Canada, the boreal region:

🌲 Is a 1.3 billion-acre landscape defined by water and wildlife.
🌲 Includes wetlands that buffer against floods and droughts.
🌲 Stores carbon that would otherwise add to climate change.
🌲 Is home to over 600 Indigenous communities!

Today marks the beginning of #NationalForestWeek, and this year's theme focuses on ways Canada's forests support biological diversity. Few wild places remain on Earth like Canada’s boreal forest—join us this week as we raise awareness for this ecologically important resource! 🌎

During spring, they breed in high concentrations in the prairie pothole region, along the shores of Ontario’s Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, and on the island river deltas of the boreal forest.

In the fall, they migrate mainly to the Gulf of Mexico, but can also be found along the Pacific coasts of Mexico and the United States, and along the Atlantic coast from the Chesapeake Bay to North Carolina.
